Women need health care and access to health system more than men despite the fact that women seek more medical care, use more health services, spend more on medications, and suffer greater disability from diseases. This is due to their reproductive and sexual health needs, they also have more chronic non-reproductive health issues such as cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, STDs, mental illness, osteoporosis and Fistula. 51% of the Uganda's population is female and occupy multiple significant roles in the society as well as serve as primary caregivers making 87% of health care decisions in families.

There is 22million women in Uganda yet a number of factors including poverty, discrimination, and violence undermine women's health. The health status of women is critically linked to their empowerment and fundamental freedom. Women's rights are essential to national development, economic growth and global progress. However women in some parts of Uganda discrimination and denial of basic rights, beginning in infancy, negatively impacts their health and the trajectory of their lives. Gender remains an important social determinant of health, since women's health is influenced not just by their biology but also by various conditions such poverty.
